POSITION SUMMARY AND RESPONSIBILITY


The Family Practice Nurse Practitioner provides primary care services to patients in Skilled Nursing, Long Term Care and Independent Living facilities, nursing homes and private homes, regardless of age or sex on a continuing basis. Nurse Practitioner services will include preventative medicine, patient education and health care maintenance in conjunction with acute and chronic ambulatory medicine.

The Nurse Practitioner services will be provided in the Jamestown Family Health Clinic. Outpatient services may be provided or arranged at other locations including extended care facilities, group homes, and private homes. Inpatient care will be at Olympic Medical Center Nurse practitioners will be expected to meet specific patient care and production goals as outlined in the individual contract.

The Nurse Practitioner will participate in ongoing quality committees, projects and goals for inpatient and outpatient care in coordination with local hospitals, regional and national professional associations and the Tribe; and, will engage in medical education and medical research activities as needed in support of the Clinic and Tribe's mission.

Oversight and consultative services will be provided for nursing staff that are providing services in the clinic. Nurse Practitioner may also provide direct supervision of students and allied health professionals who have educational experiences in the clinic.

7. Demonstrates the ability to assess, plan, implement and evaluate individual patient care appropriate to the age of patients served by demonstrative knowledge of the principles of growth and development over the life span.
8. Communicates appropriately with the person served regardless of their Age, sex, gender, race, language or national origin.


DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

1) Contributes to physician's effectiveness by identifying short-term and long-range patient care issues that must be addressed; providing information and commentary pertinent to deliberations; recommending options and courses of action; implementing physician directives.
2) Assesses patient health by interviewing patients; performing physical examinations; obtaining, updating, and studying medical histories.
3) Determines abnormal conditions by administering or ordering diagnostic tests, such as x-rays, electrocardiograms, and laboratory studies; and then interpreting test results.
4) Performs therapeutic procedures by administering injections and immunizations; suturing; managing wounds and infections.
5) Instructs and counsels patients by describing therapeutic regimens; giving normal growth and development information; discussing family planning; providing counseling on emotional problems of daily living; promoting wellness and health maintenance.
6) Provides continuity of care by developing and implementing patient management plans.
7) Maintains safe and clean working environment by complying with procedures, rules, and regulations.
8) Protects patients and employees by adhering to infection-control policies and protocols.
9) Complies with federal, state, and local legal and professional requirements by studying existing and new legislation; anticipating future legislation; enforcing adherence to requirements; advising management on needed actions.
10) Maintains professional and technical knowledge by attending educational workshops; reviewing professional publications; establishing personal networks; participating in professional societies.
11) Develops health care team staff by providing information, educational opportunities, and experiential growth opportunities.
12) May be required to make daily rounds at Olympic Medical Center (hospital) in Port Angles, WA if given hospital privileges.
13) Seeing pts in the Jamestown Family Health Clinic up to five days a week working variable shifts and hours. This is a broad spectrum federally qualified health clinic family practice that serves all ages and conditions.
14) Night and weekend call to be shared among the clinicians.
15) Completing charting and required paperwork for each patient encounter in a timely manner as outlined in contracts.
16) Participating in the development/review of office policies, procedures and quality improvement projects
17) ARNP positions include the requirement to care for patients at home and in long term care facilities. Rounding on nursing home patients at least once monthly and directing medical care of patients throughout the month is the minimum requirement.


Qualifications:

1. Current Washington State RN License

2. Graduate of Accredited School with an Advanced Degree in Nurse Practice (ARNP) and current Washington State ARNP License

3. Board certification in specialty (if newly graduated from residency, must be obtained within 3 years of graduation) must be kept current

4. Unrestricted license to practice within WA state

5. Current DEA certificate without restriction

6. BLS required, PALS, ACLS preferred

7. Indian Preference

NOTICE
This position is covered by the provisions of the Crime Control Act of 1990, Subchapter V - Child Care Worker Employee Background Checks (42 U.S.C. 13041) and the Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act of 1990 (25 U.S.C. 3201-3210). As such, each applicant will be required, as a pre-condition to employment, to submit to a 5-year criminal history background check, including fingerprinting. The applicant will be able to obtain a copy of the criminal history report (from the reporting agency) made available to the Tribe and they will have the right to challenge the accuracy and completeness of the information contained in the report.

The grounds for denying employment, based on the results of the back ground check, include the following: any conviction for a sex crime; an offense involving a child victim; a drug felony; or if a person has been found guilty of or entered a plea of guilty or nolo contendere to any federal, state or Tribal offense involving a crime of violence, sexual assault, sexual molestation, child exploitation, sexual contact, prostitution or crimes against persons.
