MEDICAL/SAFETY OFFICER

Description:

This is a sesonal position from April to Oct. 

NATURE AND SOURCE OF SUPERVISION: Reports to Personnel Manager.  Coordinates daily activities and schedule with Paradise Inn General Manager during summer. Works under direction of Personnel Manager with regard to drug testing program and Worker's Comp claims.  Works with Operations Manager and seasonal supervisors in scheduling safety training.

Duties:

  DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Promote the spirit and intent of Guest Services Hospitality Standards.

Keep regular office hours in designated room at Paradise Inn during summer season.

 Administer drug test as new employees arrive and random drug testing as called for by Personnel Manager.

  Participate in new employee orientations with regard to MSDS and BBP training, review of Infirmary and sick-call procedures.

Make regular rounds of first aid kits and eye wash stations, restocking as necessary.

Order supplies from Ashford warehouse.

Primary responsibility for compliance of OSHA standards; completion of company and State Industrial injury paperwork, OSHA logs.

Communicate as needed with doctor or hospital with which we have Standing Orders.

Communicate wilderness safety to all new staff and management.

In the event of an employee injury or illness requiring a trip to a doctor or hospital, it may be necessary to drive employee unless an ambulance is called for.

If there are employees who, due to injury or illness, require confinement to dorm room, personally call on employee to be sure s/he is receiving meals, medication, etc.

Safety training procedures pertaining to the following:  snow removal; Hantavirus, safety equipment, blood-borne pathogens, Haz-Mat, fire safety, MSDS and on-going updates.

 On-going job-related training to include kitchen, housekeeping, and maintenance-specific duties to include sanitation and lifting procedures.

Attend NPS Safety Committee meetings.

Participate in NPS health and safety inspections.

First aid training for full time employees and seasonal management to include CPR and first aid.

 Fire training to include evacuation procedures of guest areas as well as dorms; also extinguisher training for selected staff and management.

Pre-season and seasonal safety inspections of employee dorms to include smoke detection, fire equipment, and egress.

Assist with preseason opining and end of season closing of dorms

Covers Resident Supervisors duties on Resident Supervisors days off and assist with opening and closing of dorms. Assist with checking in and checking out employees paperwork.

Performs such other related duties as directed or required.

Qualifications:

 PREREQUISITES: Education:  High school graduate. College or secondary education preferred.  Minimum EMT certification or LPN license.  Must possess valid driver's license and clean driving record.

PROFESSIONAL REQUIREMENTS: One year experience in safety or occupational/medical supervisory position preferred.      

Personal Qualities and Physical Requirements: Must be able to speak clearly and listen attentively.  Must be able to write legibly as well as read and understand directions and instructions.  Appearance must be in compliance with company guidelines.

Will be required to perform diverse physical tasks.  Must be able to stoop, bend, grasp, and perform repetitive motions. Extensive walking and stair climbing. Good physical energy, stamina and agility. Exposure to wet floors occurs. Must be able to work in cold, icy or snowy conditions, with elevations up to 6400 feet.  Must be able to lift 50 pounds periodically. Must be able to work weekends and be on-call.  

Must have a clean driving record and submit a 3/5 year driving abstract.

. Must be service and safety oriented.  Must possess a sense of awareness, timelines, urgency, humor, and common sense.  Must live in park during summer season.  Must be able to adapt to the isolation of national park life.
